Volkswagen’s board of directors has just given the go-ahead for the production of a 100% electric engine. The electric van, which should be the spiritual successor to Volkswagen’s classic Microbus, but based on the manufacturer’s dedicated MEB platform for electric vehicles, is long overdue.

Buzz’s 111 kWh battery, but also the famous retractable roof, a distinctive feature of the California, which allows it to stand upright and offer additional sleeping space. Thanks to the flat floor, the ID. California will certainly be packed with clever storage space. Production of the new 21st century combi will start in 2022 with the cargo model.
However, this ID. California will benefit from the new assembly line at the Hanover plant, which will go into operation in 2025.
