Toyota’s new electric car arsenal

New Toyota strategy

The Japanese brand is hitting the table with a big bang and has just revealed 17 concept cars, split between the Toyota and Lexus brands. Akio Toyoda, the boss of the Toyota group, has always been skeptical of any attempt to electrify the Japanese car landscape, but after increased pressure from shareholders, we sense a U-turn.

Toyota will rely on the BZ range, Beyond Zero, with electric cars designed for all market segments: 8 other colorful concept cars, a pick-up, an autonomous shuttle, the Compact Cruiser EV and the small electric roadster. Lexus, in turn, is bringing four new concepts to the ‘showroom of the future’. A sedan and two SUVs, including the RZ450e, the realization of the LF-Z Electrified Concept, as well as an electric GT that seems to be back in the technological showcase with a solid battery, 700 km of autonomy and a 0-100 km/h in less than 2.0 s.

Toyota seems to be more confident than ever: at this major conference, the group’s boss indicated that he was aiming to sell 3.5 million electric vehicles by 2030, 1.5 million more than the initial target. The group also plans to invest nearly 15.6 billion euros in the development of these ranges and just as much in battery production. This would enable it to implement its first approaches to solid state batteries.
