Tesla Model Y Propulsion : a 3 000 euros discount in sight ?

Recently arrived in Europe, the Tesla Model Y Propulsion is making a lot of noise. An excessive price with a stock that is not being sold, the brand plans to lower the price of this model. 

2022 is the most important year for the American manufacturer Tesla. The Tesla Model Y has been voted the best electric car ever. More than 930,000 electric vehicles were produced by the brand in the first three quarters of 2022. 

A little history on the Tesla Model Y

This model began production in 2021. It is only in the summer of 2021 that the Tesla Model Y arrives in Europe. For a year, the Model Y was very difficult to access on our continent. Why ? The delivery time : once an order was made, the electric car was delivered up to 9 months later. Moreover, in view of the vehicle’s success, Tesla decided to increase the price of the car.

More complications…

The Tesla Model Y is available in 3 versions*, Performance, Long Range, and Propulsion. The Propulsion, less powerful and less autonomous than the others, did not have the desired craze. This model was created for the Chinese market. While the Tesla Gigafactory in Shanghai was building a lot of them , because of the competition in China, Tesla was not able to sell its vehicles as easily as expected. That’s why, at the end of summer 2022, the Propulsion arrived in Europe. 

What is propulsion*?

The car is sold from 49,990 euros, unlike 69,990 euros for the Y Performance, or 64,990 euros for the Grande Autonomie. The Model Y has 455 kilometres of range. Unlike the others, it doesn’t have 4-wheel drive. It ranges from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has 300 horsepower instead of 395 for Long Range, or 424 horsepower for Performance.

But in Europe, this model is not very successful. The price shocked the European market. Many people were waiting for additional changes on the classic Tesla Model Y and Tesla 3. Why ? The price of the SUV became cheaper than the sedan in some European countries. 

A Tesla plant can produce up to 14,000 Tesla Model Y vehicles a week, but they need buyers. This is unheard of for Tesla, a lot of Propulsion models are available. There is a big problem with multiple order cancellations. Deliveries are too slow, and with the energy crisis and inflation, everything is not in favor of the sale of the Tesla Y Propulsion. 

New Tesla Discounts 

In view of the extremely unstable market, Tesla promised to take over the Tesla Model 3 for the purchase of a Model Y. In August, the brand estimated at 45,000 euros the Model 3 cars. The purchase of a Tesla Y would therefore amount to 3,000 euros. But just before the delivery of the vehicle, Tesla estimated the 3 model to only 33,000 euros. The Y model therefore costs 15,000 euros. Because of these plans, which seem more like a scam, 2022 is coming to an end, and Tesla remains hungry despite her ambition.

To sell the Tesla Y Propulsion, the brand could offer an exceptional discount of 3,000 euros. With the 7,000 euros ecological bonus, this model could be sold for 40,990 euros. Nothing is official yet, it will take a few more weeks to see if sales resume. 

While sales of the Tesla Y Propulsion are still low, the rental of this model is booming. Some electric car rental agencies take advantage of the excitement around this car. This is the case with Movo Car Rental, which rents mostly Tesla electric models.
