Despite the approaching end of the year, the French manufacturer, Renault, does not plan to give gifts. The price of the electric Zoe and Twingo models continues to rise.
Prices are going up again ? Yes, unfortunately at Renault prices are still going up. And this is not the first time this year. If this kind of revaluation is not uncommon, what is shocking is the gap with the basic prices.
The batteries of the electric cars to blame
This can be explained by the increase in production costs, or the shortage of certain components such as semiconductors. Batteries in electric cars are responsible for these increases. The cost of the materials needed to build them has skyrocketed over the past year. Renault is not the only manufacturer obliged to adapt, Dacia had also upgraded its electric vehicles : the Dacia Spring took more than €3,000 in 2022.
1 800 € more on electric cars?
Renault had a heavy hand… The Twingo models, small “cheap” city cars, are experiencing a €1,200 increase at once. The basic authentic vehicle, is now available from €25,250 instead of €24,050. A very shocking increase, compared to the Dacia Spring having a starting price of €20,800. While in March, the electric Twingo started from €21,950. That’s an additional €3,300 over a nine-month period.
As for the Zoe’s, let’s remember that it is an electric model extremely praised for its price to quality ratio and its reliability as « entry-level » electric cars. On December 1, the price rose by €1,400 ! With the R110 finish, the first prize cost €35,100. At the beginning of the year, it cost no more than €32,000, its price had even been lowered by Renault with the arrival of the electric Mégane.
So the Zoe is as expensive as the Mégane ? The small city car should be a cheaper option. But the new Mégane compact electric car is also experiencing an increase of €1,800 in its basic version.
With the electric car market growing, and competitors each offering vehicles more and more interesting, Renault is not in a good position. Hopefully this is the last increase… The French manufacturer does not plan to lower the prices of its electric Zoe, this model should soon disappear, it returns in the last year of its life.
