A 100% electric minivan is on its way for Volvo. Despite many criticisms about electric SUVs, for the Swedish brand it’s time to bring the minivans up to date. These models will only be available in China.

A minivan to China ? This may seem rather atypical given that this type of vehicle does not have an important place in the Chinese automotive market. But, for a few months now, these big cars have enjoyed an extraordinary success, especially the electric versions. And so that’s the challenge Volvo has decided to take on.

The goal ? To dethrone the Buick GL8, still powered by a thermal engine, which has a king’s place in other monospaces. It is important to understand that in China, two types of minivans are bought: those very economical like the Wuling Honguang, or those very high-end for a VIP clientele.
Today, foreign car manufacturers are struggling to gain a foothold in this market. Alongside the Buick GL8, we find the Honda Odyssey and Elysion, Toyota Alphard, Lexus LM, but none is an electric model.

But Volvo is going to change all that. Leader of the minivan in Europe, an electric version did not exist before this project for China. Not only unprecedented for the Swedish brand, but also for its group Geely. This new car will be strongly inspired by the Zeekr 009*, a vehicle whose production should begin in the following days.
