In recent days, rumors have circulated that Tesla intends to cancel its battery division in Berlin. The Gigafactory has also reportedly paused production of 4680 cells, which would allow the brand’s electric cars to improve their range and charging speed while reducing their cost.

Although rumors have circulated about the interruption of battery production in Berlin just days after it began, the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the region where the factory is located stated that battery production is not on hold. According to a ministry spokesperson, Tesla has started battery system production in Grünheide, near Berlin, and is preparing to manufacture battery cell components on site.

There is no danger to jobs in Europe

However, it appears that this interruption is due to an American law. The Biden administration recently signed a law that grants tax credits to automakers that produce a certain amount of batteries on American soil. As a result, Tesla is said to have decided to prioritize its battery production in the United States in the near future.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the state : “Tesla has prioritized other production steps in the United States for the moment because commercial conditions are considered more favorable there due to tax incentives. The Grünheide site, including its battery cell production, continues to be established. It will be maintained, as well as the jobs associated with it.”
