The year 2021 closes with a new record for electric vehicles. Including plug-in hybrids, plug-in vehicles accounted for almost a fifth of sales in France over the past year. According to the data communicated by the CCFA, 162,106 electric cars were registered in France during the past year, an increase of 46% compared to 2020. Sales of diesel cars are down 31% compared to 2020 and sales of petrol cars are down less (-14%).

With 23,172 units sold in December, the electric car ended the year with a record in volume, but also in market share (14.65%). With 3,959 units sold, the Tesla Model 3 is at the top of the podium, closely followed by the Renault ZOE and the Dacia Spring, with 3,532 and 2,787 units respectively registered during the period.

Over the year as a whole, the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling electric car in France, with registrations up 258% on 2020. With 24,911 units sold, the American saloon is just ahead of the Renault ZOE, which came second with 23,573 registrations. With 15,497 units sold, the rechargeable hybrid also closed the year with a market share of almost 10%. Over the year, the segment totaled 141,012 registrations, 89% more than in 2020.
