Connected cars are becoming increasingly common, and they are therefore increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks. This is why automakers are organizing ethical hacking contests, where hackers are invited to find security vulnerabilities in their systems.
Tesla participated in one of these contests in Tokyo, and the hackers from Team Synacktiv won the jackpot. They managed to hack the infotainment system of a Tesla Model 3, and they also managed to take control of a charging station.
In exchange for their exploits, the hackers won a prize of $450,000. They also helped to improve the security of Tesla cars, as Tesla was able to fix the vulnerabilities that they discovered.
This is a good initiative on the part of Tesla, as it shows that the brand takes security seriously. Ethical hacking contests are an effective way to find and fix security vulnerabilities before they are exploited by malicious hackers.
