The German brand has created a plastic recycling project. Audi intends to build its belt locks with these recycled parts.

Like many car manufacturers, Audi wants to be more environmentally friendly. The brand tries to limit its polluting emissions related to the manufacture of its electric vehicles. To do so, Audi has decided to continue recycling materials to use plastic on its new models.

Hence the inspiration for the project Plasticloop, using recycled plastic to make belt locks. Grids, bumpers, or protective plastic used on older models, Audi collects everything it can.

Once the plastic is recovered, it is crushed into smaller pieces. A recycling process then transformes the plastic granules into pyrolytic oil which is used to create the brand’s new parts.

If this recycling is only linked to small parts, it allows Audi to develop its circular economy. Why ? Because the price of materials decreases, and the carbon footprint of these older vehicles is significantly reduced.

Audi is working with LyondellBasell on this project, a multinational company specialized in chemicals and plastics. The German manufacturer plans to create other parts in the same way.
