In Uncle Sam’s country, because of the rise in electricity prices lately, driving in a thermal car becomes cheaper. Low-cost electric vehicles are the most impacted, while more luxurious models do not suffer the same consequences.

At the end of last year, electricity prices rose around the world. Record prices were reached because of the war in Ukraine. In terms of costs, electric cars were more attractive compared to the exploding price of fuel. According to a study by Anderson Economic Group, in 2021, driving in a recharged electric vehicle at home was cheaper than driving in a thermal car. But since the second half of 2022, charging your electric car on public terminals, much more expensive than domestic electricity, costs  As expensive as a gas tank in a thermal car.

Large electric cars not impacted

The Anderson Economic Group study shows that luxury cars are not affected. Large electric cars have an average usage cost of $12.4 per 100 miles. That would be $19.96 for a similar thermal vehicle. Even if the charging was done on public (more expensive) terminals, the electric remains cheaper at 15.95 dollars. Fuel prices are likely to rise again in the United States due to the recent rise in Brent oil prices. In the near future, electric cars should regain the advantage over thermal.

In France, electricity remains much cheaper, mainly due to higher fuel costs. If you want to test an electric car before buying one, go to your nearest electric car rental agency. In the south-east of France, Movo Car Rental is a startup that rents exclusively electric and hybrid vehicles.
