Electric cars are slowly becoming more popular in Argentina. Chery, a Chinese manufacturer, wants to take over this growing market. They hope to produce 50,000 cars a year.

Well present on the Brazilian market, Chery continues her conquest of Latin America with Argentina. The Chinese brand will invest nearly 400 million dollars and build a new factory. It will only produce 100% electric cars. Chery is taking the lead and winning in a country where electric cars are growing.

Step 1 for Chery : plant capacity. She needs to be able to create 50,000 cars a year by 2025. Step 2 : an investment of $100 million to double its production capacity by 2030.

Argentina’s strong point, its large lithium reserves. This metal is indispensable in the creation of electric cars, especially their batteries. The Chinese manufacturer will therefore benefit from this material and build batteries next to the Andes, in the province of Jujuy. Some of these batteries will be taken to other production sites in the United States, Germany and Spain.
