Citroën has just reduced the price of its electric C4 to compete with the MG 4. With this price drop, is the new offer of the ë-C4 Live more interesting than the MG 4 ?

Like most cars, the price of the electric C4 has increased in recent months. At the beginning of 2022, the Feel trim was offered at €36,300. On February 1, 2023, the same trim was priced at €41,200 !

To lower the entry price, Citroën recently added a base trim called Live, offered at €39,700 as of February 1.

However, the French automaker recently reversed course. Unusual for electric cars, the price of the ë-C4 has dropped significantly, at least for the Live variant.

Its price is now €34,990 as of April 3, a decrease of €4,710 ! The idea is to reach a psychological price point of €29,990, taking into account the €5,000 government bonus.

It is clear that Citroën had to make a strong move to boost sales of the electric C4, which were declining. Competition has indeed intensified, especially with the arrival of a formidable competitor, the MG 4. The Chinese automaker has disrupted the market for electric family cars with a starting price of €29,990… but without taking into account the government bonus!

So, the MG 4 remains cheaper, but does it offer as much as the Citroën ? Let’s compare the specifications.

Technical specifications The Citroën C4 has a motor with 100 kW, equivalent to 136 hp. The MG 4 Standard is more powerful with 125 kW, equivalent to 170 hp.

It has better performance, with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 7.7 seconds, compared to 10 seconds for the French car.

But what matters most with these cars is the range. The MG 4 has a 51 kWh battery (LFP), while the C4 has a 50 kWh battery. However, the MG 4 has a slightly higher range, with 357 km in mixed WLTP cycle, compared to 350 km for the C4.

As for charging, the C4 has an advantage in AC charging with an onboard charger of 7.4 kW, compared to 6.6 kW for the MG. On the other hand, in fast charging, the Chinese car claims up to 117 kW, while the French car is limited to 100 kW.

To remember :

As of February 1st Citroën's electric C4 has seen it's price go down to €39,700
The MG 4, created by a Chinese manufacturer, the C4's rival costs €29,990
The MG 4 seems to be an overall better offer with higher horsepower, range, and battery power
