Several electric SUVs will soon be on the market by Land Rover.
As part of a major offensive led by the Jaguar Land Rover Group (JLR) on the electric car market, the brand plans to offer electric versions of its Evoque models, Velar and Discovery Sport. Historically, Land Rover specialized in the production of 4×4 and SUVs.
Unlike Jaguar, which relies on an electric sedans for its return to this market, Land Rover will focus exclusively on SUVs and off-road cars.
The JLR Group plans to invest $15 billion in this project, which will include modifications to factories, such as Halewood, to accommodate the production of cars on the EMA (Electric Modular Architecture) platform.
While these vehicles were originally planned with a hybrid powertrain, JLR decided to switch quickly to electric, in response to the upward trend in electrification.
Although the exact number of electric SUVs offered by Land Rover is not yet known, the brand has announced that it plans to launch in 2025 a medium-sized electric SUV, followed by a range evolution in the end of the decade.
