Nio, the Chinese electric car manufacturer, has announced that it has set a new range record with its ET7 sedan. The car traveled 1,044 kilometers on a single charge, slightly more than the 1,000 kilometers certified under the CLTC cycle.

The test was conducted by William Li, the founder and CEO of Nio. He drove the car from Shanghai, China, to Xiamen, a distance of 1,044 kilometers. The outside temperature ranged from -2 to 14 degrees Celsius, and the car’s heating was set to 20 degrees Celsius. The car’s average consumption was 13.2 kWh/100 km.

The journey took place on the highway, with the NOP+ semi-autonomous driving system activated for 92% of the journey. The average speed was 83.9 km/h.

This new range record confirms Nio’s ambitions in battery technology. The Chinese manufacturer is the first to market a 150 kWh solid-state battery.

The new range record for the Nio ET7 is impressive. However, it is important to note that the test was conducted under ideal conditions, with mild outside temperatures and a constant speed on the highway. It is likely that the car’s real-world range will be lower in more challenging conditions, such as cold weather or with speed variations.

Nonetheless, this record shows that solid-state battery technology has the potential to revolutionize the range of electric cars.
