Volkswagen R sports cars will become electric by 2030

Little by little, the German car manufacturer’s R range will switch to electric. Its goal is to be 100 % electric before 2030. 

The switch from R models to electric is the next logical step for Volkswagen. With the ID range in full swing, German is becoming more and more important in the electric car, a more than strategic choice. As a reminder, by 2035, European manufacturers will no longer be able to sell new cars with combustion engines in the European Union.

The R-badge is a sign of the power of Volkswagen’s thermal cars. The German brand would have planned for a few years to make an electric version. A rumor, concerning the creation of a parallel brand to Volkswagen, dedicated to electricity, had surfaced, two years ago. But today, this vast project has been confirmed with the word of Reinhold Ivenz, the boss of the R range. “In order to become an all-electric brand by the end of the decade, we are taking the necessary measures today for the future transformation» he explains. Volkswagen R’s globally successful products are part of this process of change. They will defend sustainable and electric mobility in the future.”
