Renault’s future electric R5 will be on the market in 2024 and the French brand wants to hit hard on the 100% electric city car market.
In addition to an attractive design, the car should also be distinguished by its price, which was mentioned during a presentation of the genesis to the press: it should be lower than that of its direct competitors, although Renault has not yet unveiled a quantified objective.
Cost optimization will be possible thanks to a new platform, the CMF-BEV, which was developed from the Clio and is 30% cheaper than the Zoe.
This platform will also be used for the new 4L, an Alpine, a Nissan and probably by Dacia afterwards.
In addition, the R5 will be equipped with a new battery and engine optimized to reduce development and production costs.
Although Renault has not specified what its direct competitors will be, the R5 will certainly be well positioned against models such as the Volkswagen ID.2, which is announced at less than €25,000 and will be assembled in Spain.
In any case, the R5 will certainly be more affordable than the Zoé, which is currently sold from 35.100 €.
