The Porsche Macan EV is currently in development before its official unveiling.

With an impressive power output of 612 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, an 800V architecture for fast charging at 270 kW, and a claimed range of over 483 km, expectations are high. However, the first images have raised doubts about its real-world range.

According to information from Carscoops, who had a close look at a development prototype, it showed only 234 km of remaining range with 82% of charge available.

This immediately raised concerns among enthusiasts. However, it’s important to note that this prototype was used in cold conditions at 0°C, which can have a significant impact on range.

Moreover, the displayed range typically takes recent consumption into account, which can be affected by intensive use during development testing.

In fact, Carscoops highlighted the capability of the onboard system to take into account real-world conditions and usage, thereby avoiding trapping the driver.

Based on data collected from real-world situations, it is estimated that winter range can decrease on average by 30%.

Taking into consideration a potential range of 483 km (as announced by Porsche), this would result in a total mixed range of 338 km in winter, or 277 km with 82% of remaining charge.

Therefore, the displayed range on the prototype may not be surprising when considering intensive use.

In conclusion, although the initial images have raised questions about the real-world range of the Porsche Macan EV, it’s important to consider the development conditions in which the prototype was used.

Official tests and data will be needed to have a more accurate view of its real-world range.

This electric Porsche should not see the light of day until 2024.
