A 37-year-old Vietnamese internet user, Sonnie Tran, had the bad idea of criticizing the national car manufacturer, VinFast. He was arrested by the police and detained for several days.

Sonnie Tran published several articles on social networks in which he accused VinFast of hiding losses and making suspicious financial transactions. He also claimed that the manufacturer’s electric cars were manufactured by Indian and Chinese subcontractors.

VinFast did not like these reviews and asked the police to arrest Sonnie Tran. The user was accused of abusing his freedom of expression and press freedom. He was released after four days of detention, but remains under investigation.

This incident is a blow to freedom of expression in Vietnam. The country is run by a communist regime that tends to suppress criticism.
