IM Motors, a joint venture set up by the Chinese e-commerce giant in collaboration with automaker SAIC, has announced that the L7 will be available for sale from April 2022. The luxury sedan will have a starting price of around €58,400, but promises top-notch performance and technology content, so much so that the company aims to establish itself as a serious alternative to the Tesla Model S.
The IM L7 will be offered with two battery sizes, a 93 kWh battery and a 118 kWh battery, with a claimed range of 615 and 1,000 km respectively. It will be the first car in the world to be equipped with a wireless charging system, capable of cordless battery charging at 11 kWh.
In terms of performance, Alibaba’s car, which will have 540 hp and 700 Nm of torque, will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 in just 3.9 seconds. On the other hand, in terms of active safety, it will have state-of-the-art driving assistance systems. It is equipped with 15 high-resolution cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 radars and a lidar.
Demonstrating the progress made by Chinese manufacturers in all respects, the IM L7 will also offer a service package that, for a fee of 1,200 euros per year, includes assistance, insurance, maintenance and periodic checks.
