In partnership with Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturer, and BMW, the 100% electric brand, Ceer, will be operational shortly.
In view of the post-oil era, Saudi Arabia wants to get ahead and start creating electric cars. With such a collaboration between BMW and Foxconn, Ceer leaves with a lead. Production must even start very quickly, in 2025.
A futuristic vision ?
The Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the country will be ready to export 160,000 electric cars by 2026. See even 150,000 per year by 2025. Foxconn will be entirely responsible for the design of electric vehicles, while its Bavarian colleague, BMW, has concluded an agreement to share some of its technologies. The location of the factory has not yet been confirmed, but some believe it could be located in the city of the future, Neom. This would be in total correlation with their ambitious project.
But what’s a national brand ?
Similar to Togg, a Turkish manufacturer, the brand will be national, since it is created at the initiative of the State Sommer and which will be financed by the public investment fund of Saudi Arabia.
Ceer cars for who ?
The country has wanted to develop its auto industry for a long time. But Saudi Arabia will not follow the example of its UAE neighbors, electric cars will not be luxurious models, but electric vehicles accessible to all. Mass production is their main goal.
The first consumers will obviously be those of the local market of the Middle East and North Africa, with sedans and SUVs conceptualized for them. But exporting to Europe is also a major goal, but we will have to wait until 2030 to see the fruits of this partnership here at home.
To remember : Saudi Arabia to create its own national electric car brand «Ceer» Production will start in 2025 Ceer will be able to produce 150,000 vehicles by 2025 Its factory may be in the city of the future Neom
