Superchargeurs Tesla et chargeur Ionity

Ionity or Tesla Superchagers, fast charging networks fight to be the best. 1 year after the opening of the Tesla Superchargers in Europe, it’s time to compare the two.

The autonomy of electric cars remains the main concern. On average, a French person travels more than 50 kilometers a day by car. With some vehicles not exceeding 400 kilometres of autonomy, the fast charge is necessary every week, for some every day. Today only about ten minutes are needed to charge a bit. Should you stop at Tesla’s or Ionity’s charging stations, Movo explains.

Created by BMW, Mercedes-benz, Ford, Audi and Porsche, Ionity is present throughout France, and in most European countries. That’s a total of 431 charging stations in Europe. 47 are being built. And it’s no less than 107 stations in France, with about 4 chargers per site.

In terms of cost, Ionity is around 0.69 euro per kilowatt hour, without a subscription. But with the new Mobilize Charge Pass for Renault vehicle owners, three formulas are available that can reduce the price to 30 cents per kilowatt hour.

But less than a year ago, Tesla set up several Supercharger stations in France, making Ionity fall from its pedestal.

Is Tesla the good solution for your electric car ?

There are currently 46 Tesla Supercharger stations open in France. Fewer than Ionity, but Tesla is not less used. “Launched in November 2021, our Supercharger Access Program for non-Tesla vehicles continued to expand to new stations and countries, in line with our mission to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy. The Pilot Program is now available in 14 countries for a total of more than 4,600 Superchargers at more than 320 stations.”

Worldwide, Tesla has 4,600 charging stations for electric cars, compared to 1,900 Ionity. In France, there are 722 charging stations. Tesla Supercharger stations have an average of 20 to 30 chargers per site.

Concerning the cost, it is necessary to count 0.79 euro per kilowatt hour for vehicles of another brand. With a subscription of 12.99 euros per month, the price can be reduced to 67 cents. But some chargers are free, and Tesla doesn’t make you pay for their use.

Other charging networks exist, notably those of Total energies, present on the highway resting areas. These are 57 sites with 167 chargers at 0.65 euro per kilowatt hour.

So, for your electric car, Tesla offers more chargers per station, but those of Inoity cost less, difficult to find a winner.

In terms of car rental, don’t worry, the agency takes care of charging the vehicle. Some, such as Movo Car Rental, lend you a charging card to make the process easier, including later billing.
