Tesla announced a massive recall of two million cars due to problems with Autopilot. The automaker has now released details of the modifications it will be making to its semi-autonomous driving system.

The modifications made by Tesla are as follows :

  • Improved visibility of driver monitoring alerts

Driver monitoring alerts, which tell the driver to keep their hands on the wheel, will now be more visible on the touchscreen. The text size will be increased and the notifications will be moved to a more prominent position.

  • Addition of a single-press Autopilot activation option

Drivers will now be able to activate Autopilot features by pressing the pedal once, instead of twice. This will simplify the activation and deactivation of Autopilot.

  • Strengthening of driver attention requirements

Driver attention requirements will be strengthened when using Autopilot and when approaching traffic lights and stop signs outside of highways. Drivers will now be required to keep their hands on the wheel at all times and be prepared to intervene.

  • Introduction of a suspension policy

Tesla will introduce a suspension policy that will limit Autopilot usage for one week if inappropriate use is detected. Inappropriate use is defined as five “forced Autopilot disengagements” by the driver or another driver of the vehicle.

These modifications are designed to improve the safety of Autopilot and reduce the risk of accidents. They are also in compliance with the requirements of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which conducted an investigation into Tesla’s Autopilot.
