The owner of a Rivian R1T discovered that his car had some buses. To further explore the capabilities of his vehicle, he had fun putting the car on P, while driving.

Daniel Goldburg, a driver in the IMSA category, made the buzz on social networks, but why? He discovered that his Rivian RT1 had a Launch Control in reverse. The driver posted on social media that his vehicle could also stop by activating the P-position so Park when driving forward.

In order to find out if this was normal, he continues to publish his findings on the internet.

So can we stop his automatic car with the P position ?

Like most automatic vehicles, the P position actually engages a part of the system that blocks the transmission. If the brake no longer worked, or the driver was no longer able to drive, for these reasons, the car is able to stop with the P position.

This feature varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. For Rivian, just press P to start the emergency braking. But on other vehicles for example, you have to press P several times to start braking.

What the hell is going on ?

During the activation of this emergency braking, the car decelerates very quickly. Do not use lightly, except in case of absolute necessity. So if Daniel Goldburg has discovered additional security, we do not recommend testing this feature.
