The all-new Lexus LM will be available in Europe in autumn 2023.

With a capacity of 7 people, this large luxury minivan is equipped with a simple 250 hp hybrid engine. Although it has been offered for a few years in Asia, the arrival of LM in Europe is an unexpected addition to the Lexus vehicle range.

With its imposing cubic shape and dimensions of 5.13 meters in length, it is more appropriate to talk about minivan than SUV. Designed to offer ultimate luxury, the LM is not intended for large families, but rather for the niche of chauffeur-driven vehicles. In fact, Lexus said it has researched private jet manufacturers and wealthy customers to design this new generation of vehicle.

The LM is available in two configurations. The first offers 7 seats with two VIP seats in the center and a three-seat bench in the trunk. The second is a 4-seater version, with two rear seats offering first-class comfort. These seats are designed as real armchairs, with special attention to the posture of their occupants. They can also be tilted horizontally and are equipped with a smartphone-like remote control to manage the audio system, air conditioning, seats, lighting and blinds. In addition, rear passengers can also operate these functions by voice, a first in a vehicle.

The LM’s 4-seat variant is equipped with a bulkhead between the front and rear, which incorporates a huge 48-inch screen. This screen can be used in full screen or split in half, allowing each occupant to watch their own program with a headset. Lexus has also paid particular attention to soundproofing to ensure a quiet and peaceful trip aboard the LM.

The LM cockpit is modern and sophisticated, far from the basic layout of a pickup truck.

It is equipped with digital instrumentation and a large touchscreen, giving the driver a clear view. The LM also has generous glass surfaces, although its silhouette is utilitarian with a short, plunging hood and a vertical tailgate.

In Europe, the LM will be offered with a 350h hybrid version, borrowed from the Lexus NX model. The thermal and electric powertrain develops a combined power of 250 hp, with an all-wheel drive as standard.

Lexus has also taken steps to improve the handling of this type of vehicle by using the GA-K platform, which is used in conventional cars, to lower the centre of gravity and improve the body’s stiffness. The “Rear Seat Comfort” mode also adjusts suspension and torque distribution to eliminate vibration, providing a comfortable driving experience.
