Saudi Arabia wants to diversify and turn to renewable energy. For this, it wants to develop its automotive industry, especially electric cars.

Hyundai, the world’s second largest car manufacturer, will build a factory in Saudi Arabia to produce electric cars. The plant will be located in the city of Dammam and should start production in a few months.

Initially, the factory will assemble cars imported from South Korea. But Hyundai plans to gradually install local production capacities, especially for the manufacture of batteries and components.

This plant is an important sign of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the development of the electric automobile industry. It could be followed by other manufacturers, such as Tesla, which has already announced its intention to build a factory in the country.
