It’s official : the future 100% electric Mercedes CLA will be manufactured in Germany, at the Rastatt factory.
Good news for fans of the brand, who can continue to buy a CLA made in Germany. But bad news for jobs, because the production of the current Class A and Class B, which are manufactured in Rastatt, will be stopped.
Jörg Burzer, Mercedes’ production board member, assured that ” despite the decrease in the number of models, I do not expect any repercussions on jobs “.
But it is hard to believe, because the Rastatt plant will have to be refurbished to accommodate the production of electric CLA. It is therefore likely that jobs will be lost.
Mercedes is not the only car manufacturer to face this problem. Volkswagen was also forced to lay off employees at the Zwickau plant in Germany due to low demand for its electric cars.
The transition to electric is good for the environment, but it also poses challenges for automakers.
