Four years after its launch, the famous French city car adopts a new design, while retaining its technological side.

The Renault Clio changes its appearance. Since its first appearance in 1990, this city car has been known for its rounded shapes and elegant curves.

The second generation will be remembered for its rebounded behind. And from the Clio IV, designer Laurens Van den Acker added a touch of muscle while avoiding straight lines and prominent angles.

With this restyling, the Clio undergoes a major aesthetic transformation. Although its overall silhouette remains unchanged, with a length of 4.05 meters, the style elements are radically different.

The Clio has a whole new face, thanks to the adoption of a new light signature, which will be generalized throughout the Renault range. The “C” shaped daytime running lights are replaced by vertical half-diamonds, the headlamps are refined and equipped with LEDs on all finishes.

For the first time, the city car features a genuine grille. The brand has opted for a checkerboard and gradient design, ranging from the lightest on the edges to the darkest near the new logo in brushed chrome.

Renault claims that this new design gives a more “statutory” character to its best-selling model in France (143,561 units registered in Europe last year, 42,000 of which in France). It is worth remembering that the current head of design at Renault is Gilles Vidal… and that it was he who established in the years 2010 the sharp grammar that Peugeot likes so much today.

At the rear, the shield is visually enlarged, giving the illusion of a more “seated” vehicle. The rear lights now incorporate crystal clear lenses, adding depth to the set.

Some changes are also to be noted inside. All versions are now equipped with a digital dashboard, replacing the needle counters of older entry-level models. The seats and door panels are now made of wood cellulose. The central screen integrates a new Easy Link system with “home” applications and works in symbiosis with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

This new version of the Clio, named Clio 5.2, also sees the addition of a new finish called “Esprit Alpine” which now covers the range. On the program: a specific front shield, 17-inch alloy wheels, stitching and heat-sealed “arrow” details.
